On Collecting Memory
Collecting Memory is a series of familiar essays and musings that have an academic, thoughtful bent. Collecting Memory is about the joy of pre-loved things, op-shopping, vintage fashion, old crockery, vintage handbags, knitting, literature, old movies, aesthetics, vintage scarves, Gothic romance and Gothic heroines, Roland Barthes, visual culture, memento mori, life, death and love. The first post explains what I mean by Collecting Memory, how what I treasure and collect connects me to a longer history of women's lives. Collecting Memory is about intimately reading the world in which I live, work and write. As is the nature of familiar essays, what you will find here are personal and subjective analytic explorations that move from the small and particular to the large in meaning and significance.
